National Volunteer Week 2026

Celebrate National Volunteer Week as we recognise the incredible impact of our volunteers across Brisbane and the Gold Coast.
National Volunteer Week

National Volunteer Week gave us a meaningful opportunity to pause, reflect, and celebrate one of the most vital parts of our organisation – our volunteers. Their contribution is not an ‘extra’ to what we do; it is fundamental. Every shift, every smile, and every act of kindness helps create the caring, supportive, and high-quality experience we want every family to have.

As we continue to grow through our new brand, our Family Stays campaign, and a renewed strategic focus on people, it’s clearer than ever that volunteers sit at the very centre of our mission. They bring compassion to life, helping us build a home away from home for families when they need it most.

Recognising excellence across Queensland

On Friday 15 May, members of our team had the privilege of attending the Queensland Volunteering Awards at Brisbane City Hall – a special moment to recognise extraordinary individuals and programs strengthening communities across the state.

We were incredibly proud to nominate:

  • Kate Connor – Youth Volunteer of the Year
    • Kate’s energy, compassion, and commitment shine across Kids Club, events, Meals from the Heart, and more. Her contribution leaves a lasting impact on the families we support.
  • Nicole Rudan – Volunteer of the Year
    • With over 17 years of service, Nicole has provided comfort and care through massage, supporting the wellbeing of countless families during difficult times.
  • Ronald McDonald House South East Queensland Hospitality Cart – Community Impact
    • A simple yet powerful initiative, this service helps families stay comforted and supported with essential supplies and comforting items delivered right to the bedside.
  • Bec Treby – Excellence in Volunteer Management
    • Celebrating over a decade of leadership, Bec’s dedication to empowering and supporting volunteers has created an environment where people can truly make a difference.

Volunteer impact

Behind every statistic is a story of care. This year alone, our volunteer program has continued to grow and thrive:

  • 300 active volunteers
  • 7,439 hours contributed so far
  • 3,870 families supported across our Chapter year-to-date

These numbers are powerful, but it is the human connection behind them that truly defines our impact.

Celebrating our volunteer community

We also had the opportunity to come together for a special high tea with employees and volunteers, celebrating the spirit of service and connection that makes our community so strong. We couldn’t do what we do without the generosity of our volunteers. Their support helps families stay together and close when their child needs them most.

Support that matters the most

Volunteering at Ronald McDonald House South East Queensland is a meaningful way to meet new people and help families stay strong during their child’s medical journey. All it takes is a compassionate heart and the willingness to give your time.

Be the heart that helps families stay strong, volunteer today
